WRPS officer charged in off-duty incident

Waterloo Region, Ontario – London Police Service investigators have charged a seventeen year member of the Waterloo Regional Police Service in connection with an investigation into an off-duty matter. The allegations came to the attention of Waterloo Regional Police Service in late 2016. The member, a patrol officer assigned to North Division, has been charged with 6 counts of Assault, 1 count of Assault with a Weapon and 1 count of Sexual Assault. The alleged incidents occurred between May 2013 and March 2015. The officer is scheduled for an appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in London on Monday February 27, 2017. Additionally, the Waterloo Regional Police Service Professional Standards Branch will be conducting a review of the circumstances. While the investigation continues, the member has been suspended with pay as per the requirements of the Police Services Act of Ontario. The incident is family-related and accordingly, disclosure of further details, including the name of the member, may identify the victim. No further details will be released.
